UNDINES DEBUT CLASS A
UNIFORMS
The Undine Fire Company debuted our brand new Class A dress
uniforms for the Annual Bellefonte Parade held each July. In
addition to sporting our new uniforms, this was the first time
the Undines had a marching unit in almost 50 years! Excellent
job by all Firefighters who participated. The uniforms were
provided by Trapazzano's Uniforms of Johnstown, PA.

ROPE RESCUE TRAINING
COMPLETED
May
28th-
For the past four Wednesday nights, several members have
participated in a Rope I training class hosted by the
Department. The practical skill sessions included rappelling,
pick-off rescues, basic haul systems, and litter rigging. The
evolutions were completed at the Centre County Training
Site. Members completing the training are; Chief's Toner & Baney,
Captain's Summey & Hart, and Firefighter's Williams, Walk,
Wilson, and Dave Florey. Job well done!
HEAVY
FIRE SHOWING FROM ANTIQUE SHOP
May
8th-
Just before 04:00, Box 2-31 was dispatched
for a working building fire. Chief 203 (Lose) arrived on
scene with an old barn converted into an antique shop. Upon
arrival 203 advised working fire asking for a 2nd alarm
assignment. Heavy fire was evident from the whole building when
crews arrived and a defensive attack was initiated from the
beginning. The barn was a total loss.
The
following units were on scene: Engine 210,212, Truck 216,
Tanker 219 (Undine), Engine 111 and Engine/Rescue 114, Brush
125 (Logans), Engine 810, Rescue 818, Tanker 819 (Pleasant
Gap), Truck 516, Tanker 519 (Alphas), Engine/Rescue 914, Tanker
920, Brush 925 (Milesburg).

NEW
BRUSH UNIT PLACED IN SERVICE

Station
2 placed the new Brush 225 in service. It has already
responded on its first brush fire with the Undine Fire
Company on April 8th, 2008. The 1987 Chevrolet pick-up was
obtained from the US Department of Forestry. It was in
poor condition when first received, but through tireless
efforts of many members, it was outfitted with a stake
bed, repainted and rewired and emergency lighting was
added. Additional accessories and dual wheels are in its
immediate future.

AIRCRAFT
DOWN IN BENNER TOWNSHIP
Apr
6th- At
approximately 15:15, Station 2 was dispatched to an aircraft crash
at 2100 Crosswinds Drive in Benner Township - Box 5631. Engine 212
(Capt 293-Hart), Truck 217 (Chief 203-Lose) and Tanker 219
responded to the incident. Crews arrived to find a small,
single-engine aircraft on its roof in a field located across the
street form the University Park Airport. The Engine crew assisted
with termination of power to the aircraft as well as flash
protection. All members assisted with aircraft stabilization and
patient packaging/removal. It appears an instructor and student
were attempting to take off from a near-by airport when the
airplane lost power for unknown reasons. Engine 212 remained on
scene until the fuel could be removed from the aircraft by the PSU
Haz-Mat Team and the FAA representative arrived to assess the
scene. The accident is still under investigation by the FAA.
Units
also on scene were: Rescue 518 (Alpha), Center LifeLink Ambulance,
Pleasant Gap Ambulance, Rescue-Engine 114 (Logan), PSU Haz-Mat,
Centre County EMS, PA State Police, FAA, Civil Air Patrol.

OVERTURNED
TRUCK WITH HEAVY ENTRAPMENT

31st- At
11:13, Company 2 was dispatched to Box 138 for a report of an
overturned vehicle with entrapment on the 300 block of Fillmore Rd
in Patton Twp. Engine 212 (Capt Lose) with a crew of five. While
enroute, Chief 203 (Jayson Lose) reported he was on scene with a
single vehicle with the driver heavily entangled. The Ford F150
pickup had rolled about 50 yards across a field and came to rest
right-side up next to a stream. The crew from Engine 212 and
Engine-Rescue 114 (Logan) spent over 15 minutes working to remove
the victim from the truck. Engine 210 also responded to assist
with setting up a Landing Zone for Life Flight. The victim was
flown to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center due to his
extent of injuries.
Logan
Fire Company (Co.1), Bellefont EMS (Co.26), and Center LifeLink
EMS (Co.25) also responded to the accident. police closed off
Fillmore Rd for about an hour. Co.1 & 2 cleared the scene at
11:58.

ABANDONED
VEHICLE FIRE

8th- At
02:18 Company 2 was dispatched for Box 199 at the intersection of
Jackson Road and State Route 26 for a report of a vehicle fire.
While enroute, Engine 212 was notified that Chief 102 (Snook) was
on the scene with a vehicle fire with heavy fire in the rear. The
crew from Engine 212 pulled the trash line to quickly extinguish
the fire, while additional crew members gained entry to the truck
area of the vehicle. Numerous items were found to be stored in the
truck that were still smoldering. Captain 293 (Hart) advised that
the Propak foam systme be deployed to prevent fire spread. Company
2 cleared the scene at 03:00.

MUTUAL
AID TO PLEASANT GAP
Mar
5th-
Company 2 was dispatched at 03:35 for mutual aid in Company 8's
district (Pleasant Gap) to the 1000 block of College Avenue,
Benner Twp for a shed fire endangering a structure. Truck 216 and
Tanker 219 responded, and were advised that the house was now
involved. Engine 810 arrived on scene to find heavy fire on the
exterior of the house and in the attic space. Crews from the
Engine advanced two hoselines to the interior of the house and
began attacking the visible fire. Truck 216's crew assisted with
pulling the ceiling to expose fire in the attic, but the fire had
progressed to the point where all interior crews had to be pulled
out. Additional lines were pulled to protect the exposures and to
attack the fire from the exterior. Once the fire was knocked down,
crews re-entered for overhaul. Units were on the scene until
approximately 07:00.

TOWER
& TANKER TO JULIAN GARAGE FIRE

2nd- Box
1509 was dispatched at 23:57 to 1300 Railroad Avenue in Julian for
a garage fire next to a house. Chief 1501 (Walk) arrived and
reported a working fire in the garage with exposures and assumed
the Command. The initial alarm brought Tower 216 and Tanker 219 to
the scene. Upon arrival 216 split the crew, setting up for master
stream operations and fire attack, Engine 111 supplied the Tower
which knocked down the remaining fire conditions in the garage.
Initial units did an excellent job protecting exposure structures;
an out building on Side Bravo and a 2-1/2 story dwelling on Side
Delta. Company 2 cleared the scene at approximately 02:26.

SNOWY
WEATHER CAUSES MVA

20th-
At 10:17 units were dispatched to the 1900 block of Zion
Road for a motor vehicle accident. Engine 212 and Chief
200 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle disabled
partially on the roadway. Crews assisted with fluid
control and patient assessment. Engine 212 was placed
available at 10:48.
